3-on- 3 Hockey Overview
3 on 3 Hockey is a unique brand of ice hockey. It has been designed so players of all ages and levels of ability can enhance their hockey skills in a fun filled environment. Two 3 on 3 rinks will be set up on the ice surface with a specially designed rink divider boards. Each rink measures approximately 100’ by 95’ with full boards. All games will be played at the Rochester Recreation Center.
3 on 3 League Format
We will be limited to the first 8 teams to sign up in boys squirt & pee wee age groups and the first 6 teams to sign up in girls 10U & 12U age groups. We will create a league schedule based on the number of teams that we have signed up and compete for four weeks. Each team will receive 16 games during the four week schedule. This schedule also includes a playoff.
League standings will be determined by the following:
WIN = 2 POINTS
LOSS = 0 POINTS
All tie games will be decided in a 4 player shoot out
Total points will be used to determine league standings.
Tie breakers will be:
1. Head to head
2. Goals for and goals against differential.
League Dates
All 3 on 3 leagues begin the week of April 23, 2012. Players will compete on the following schedule and will play 2 games each night. The last night of league play will be Thursday May 17, 2012.
Monday & Wednesday: Squirt & Pee Wee boys
Tuesday & Thursday: U10 & U12 girls
League fee: $380 per team - $95 per player – goalie fee $45
Tournament General Rules
1. Teams consist of four players each.
2. Goalies are registered separately. Teams are encouraged to bring goalies, but goalies will have their own game schedule. Goalies will play two periods for each team per game.
3. Games are four, four-minute periods. One minute rest between periods.
4. Goalies will compete in goals against average competition throughout the weekend.
5. No checking permitted! Checking is a minor penalty. If a player is a problem, a major penalty will be assessed. 3 on 3 is a skills game.
6. All minor penalties will result in a penalty shot for the opposing team. All other players will line up behind the opposite goal line and follow the player taking the penalty shot and play will continue from that point. The game clock will start when the penalty shot is taken.
7. All major penalties will result in a three-minute time penalty and a disqualification.
8. Any fighting whatsoever will result in a major penalty and an automatic disqualification.
9. There is no offsides or icing infractions in 3 on 3 Hockey.
10. All team members should have matching jerseys. If not pull overs will be provided.
11. Players under current suspension by USA Hockey are ineligible to participate.
12. USA Hockey rules apply in all other game circumstances, (except icing & Offsides).
13. Maximum of one bench parent will be allowed to assist with changing of players. Coaching should be kept to a minimum during 3 on 3 hockey.
14. Mercy rule: 8-goal difference results in running time.
15. All players must be USA Hockey registered.
